Join the Peace Revolution... |
'Every Generation Needs A New Revolution' - Thomas Jefferson
February 18th 2009: The day Poem for Peace began its journey around the world...
Remember the great examples of public unity inspired by people like Dr. Martin Luther King and Gandhi? I do.
Don't you think it would be great if in today's world people united to work together for the cause of peace in this way again too? I know I do.
But is such a thing possible today?
I think so... and because I believe in the power of people uniting for the cause of peace on February 18th 2009 I emailed The Poem for Peace to three of my friends and I invited them to do likewise, so that they and their friends and their friends' friends, and their friends' friends' friends... and so on, could in turn help to circulate The Poem for Peace to reach the many citizens of the world who want peace, to show them that they can actually begin to do something - that's quite easy - to help make it happen.
Our current world is clearly a troubled place. Take a look around you... look at the news... there's daily violence on both national and international levels... and it sometimes seems like society is spiraling out of control.
But it doesn't have to be this way.
History has demonstrated that when decent people act together in concert great things can be accomplished.
So, I invite you to join with us to help rewrite history for the better - starting today. It's really simple to do. All it takes is a few moments thought as you choose three friends to copy the poem to. That's it! And then as you do this you'll be joining a global revolution for peace as we make our combined voice heard across the world.
Remember if we all wait for 'someone else' to take action to bring peace to the world we'll quite likely wait a long time. So join with us - because things have already started. The Poem for Peace has begun its travels around the world bringing a message of optimism and hope. Optimism as it reminds us that most people want peace. And hope because it shows us how we can make this happen - by working together!
Here's the text of the email that's even now travelling around the world with its message of peace, so that you can see exactly how it works (feel free to copy it and use it yourself):

Hello,
I'm sending you a Poem for Peace in the hope that you will help promote peace in the world by sharing it with three friends. I have myself forwarded this poem to three friends, of which you are one. It is important that people like you and me work together for peace. With this in mind, please, if you want to, be kind enough to forward this poem to three friends who you know will be interested in promoting peace too, so that we can together get the message out there to remind each other that if we want peace in the world we need to work together to achieve it. It is our hope that by limiting the number of people that this email is circulated to by each person who chooses to join in, paradoxically this may help it to reach more people, because it will be understood by each recipient to not be just another spam email but rather a genuine effort at spreading peace in the world. (Please also include the introduction, the links and the PS with the poem.)
Here's the poem:
The Poem for Peace
A mother cries, her son is dead
a life cruelly taken,
by a bullet to the head.
And she gasps: when will peace come?
A knife, a bullet, a bomb, a plane,
the age of destruction,
it's clearly insane.
And the world asks: can peace ever come?
Politicians conniving, misrepresent the truth,
a war commences,
but where is the proof?
And the victims plead:
please let peace come.
So the people united, sickened by war,
By terrorists, by thugs,
By politicians for war.
As the many said: we must make peace come.
A world without terror, a world without pain,
this can come true,
if we all
do what's sane.
When the people pledge: we will make peace come!
Please consider sending The Poem for Peace to three of your friends who you know will be interested in helping to promote peace too. United we can make a difference!

PS - please remember, only circulate this email to a maximum of three friends that you know will genuinely be interested in promoting peace. It is important that this project is taken seriously and that we don't inadvertently generate unwanted spam emails. Thank you. Remember: united we can make a difference!

That's it! It's that simple. If you want to become a part of The Peace Revolution all you need to do is copy and paste the text of the email and forward it to three of your own friends. Then you too will have helped to make a difference by sharing a message of peace with the world.
Why February 18th?
Back in 1912 a young woman called Dorothy Kerin was dying from a life threatening illness. Doctors had tried everything to save her, but to no avail. It appeared she wouldn't last more than a few hours. However, contrary to medical expectations, miraculously, she was healed, after what she attributed to be a Divine visitation.
Her family and the medical profession were astounded. Thereafter she called the date upon which this healing event happened her 'Beautiful Day'. The date? February 18th!
From that day on Dorothy sought to act as a conduit for healing: spiritual, psychological emotional, and physical - to as many people as she could. Today, as a testimony to Dorothy's dedication the care centre she founded called Burrswood still exists (Dorothy passed away as an elderly lady in 1963).
I first learned about Dorothy's life and her work a few years ago (Winter 2004). Coincidentally her surname is exactly the same as my first name - and in many ways we share very similar life experiences. Having learned about Dorothy's life and her passion for helping to improve the world I have hoped the we might, collectively, pick up the torch that she lit, so that humanity, as a whole, might also experience a similar healing epiphany in the form of another Beautiful Day.
So, inspired by Dorothy and her life's work, I chose February 18th 2009 to send The Poem for Peace into the world in the hope that it might become the catalyst for a Beautiful Day of healing that meets the needs of our modern age too.
And...
Here are a couple of quotes that are relevant that I'd like to share with you too:
1) The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing. Edmund Burke.
2) When the power of love overcomes the love of power the world will know peace. Jimi Hendrix.
Best wishes...
