What happens during a reading?

Whether you come to see me for a reading in my reading room in Bournemouth, Dorset, England, or whether you choose to have a phone/Skype reading with me the process is very similar. Regardless of whether you’re in the same room or several thousand miles away, basically, I believe that I tune into my Spirit Guides and possibly (as in the case of a mediumship reading) your loved ones on the Otherside and relay the information to you.

The information I receive can come through in various ways, for example:  

1) Sometimes a person will ask me to make contact with a departed loved one, say, for instance, a father. Instantly, in this example I hear the name ‘George’ in my mind, which when I present this to my client turns out to be the name of her father with whom she'd hoped to connect.

2) Sometimes information may come through in a slightly ‘coded’ way. Recently I was giving a reading to a client in America and I began to describe a woman that Spirit was showing to me in my mind. She however couldn’t place the description of this woman. So, not initially understanding what it meant I asked Spirit to hold these details to one side while they gave me other information to which the client could relate. However, later in the reading it seemed to me that Spirit wanted to return to sharing the description of the unknown woman. Still, however, my client was sure she didn’t know anyone who looked like this person. So I responded by saying something along the lines of: ‘Okay, let me step back a bit here. I’ll tell you what they’re showing me. They’re showing me an image of a woman who looks just like my Aunty Sylvia. I used to have an Uncle Bill and Aunty Sylvia...’ At which point my client was amazed! She too had an Uncle Bill and Aunty Sylvia. The exact same pairing of names!  It seems that Spirit had been drawing my attention to MY UNCLE BILL AND AUNTY SYLVIA in order for me to be able to share with my client this specific pairing of names. Once this was understood, specific details of her Uncle Bill came through to me, along with other information, which she confirmed was factual.

3) Sometimes information is received which needs to be re-interpreted, which when the correct interpretation is made turns out to be amazing evidence. For example, recently a lady contacted me for a reading and I told her that before the reading had started Spirit had drawn my attention to ‘unusual gloves’. At first I suggested that I thought this might relate to ladies’ dress gloves from the 1920s... but she told me that she couldn’t see any relevance to such gloves in her life. So I said something like: ‘Okay, hold on a moment, I’ll go back to Spirit to seek some clarification on the type of gloves they mean.’ Immediately as I asked Spirit to clarify the type of gloves they wanted me to share with my client the image of plastic disposable gloves popped into my mind. So, I said to my client something like: ‘It’s plastic disposable gloves...’, at which point she was amazed, as she proceeded to tell me that her husband had brought a box of plastic disposable gloves home, for the first time ever, just the previous evening! It seems that Spirit had been showing me some very specific information about recent events in her life, at the outset of the reading, to demonstrate to her that they had tuned me into her circumstances.

... so as you can see, sometimes the information is very direct (George), sometimes I have to decode the meaning (Uncle Bill and Aunty Sylvia) and sometimes I need to seek clarification as to what the message means (plastic disposable gloves). The famous TV mediums receive information in much the same way.

Sometimes too my experience is that Spirit will impress emotions on me, such as joy, or stress... or a feeling of laughter, relating to a situation, or a person, in order for me to better describe an answer to my client.

How do you do this?

In lots of ways - all involving various degrees of trance. When I’m giving readings I usually put myself into a light trance, where I can still talk quite normally (and if you’re in the room, make eye contact) but where my attention is focussed largely on the Spirit Realm. This makes it easier for me to receive mental images, words, feelings and other impressions that I believe are sent to me from my Spirit Guides and / or from departed souls.

What’s the difference between being psychic, a medium, clairvoyant, etc?

This question appears on many psychic websites. A psychic is someone who has access to information that’s not available via ‘normal’ means (EG, awareness of the future, or awareness of another’s thoughts). A medium is a psychic who also has the ability to communicate with departed people and animals, and, often, angelic helpers and spirit guides. A clairvoyant is someone who receives information by way of mental images (which means that both a psychic and a psychic medium could, when receiving information in the form of mental pictures be classed as clairvoyant too). Not all psychics are mediums, but all mediums are psychic.

Can you read everyone?

A good question. It depends on the the context. I often know what’s going on in important areas of my life, what other’s plans are, how people are likely to respond... in advance of events. However, sometimes, on a very few occasions, when giving psychic readings I’ve felt that a small percentage of clients have blocked the process of the reading and as a result less detail has come through than might otherwise be shared with me.  Here are some examples...

Love is the drug

Once for example a woman phoned me to ask whether she would get back together with a drug dealer who was serving time in prison. As I was new to giving readings I told her as we spoke that I sensed that Spirit was showing me an image of a woman hiding behind a mask (which she said she didn’t understand). And as I answered her question honestly about the drug dealer, I told her that I felt he was using her and that when he got out of prison he would drop her, once her usefulness had passed. However, this was not the answer the woman wanted to hear, and she hung up. Afterwards, as I wondered what the image of the woman hiding behind the mask meant, I realised that Spirit was giving ME a message about HER! She was hiding, she wasn’t being open with me. And, as a result of me not telling her what she wanted to hear, she’d hung up. She had displayed very closed receptivity. She only wanted me to tell her that the drug dealer would fall in love with her and that they would live ‘happily ever after’.

Will he ever call me?

Early in 2010 I was doing a reading for a client who asked me to tune into her boyfriend, as he hadn't responded to her for a while. Immediately I told her that Spirit was showing me that he was around boats and that he would be in contact with her very soon. In a very scathing tone of voice she said something like: 'No! Not him, that's my long-term boyfriend.  I know where he is.  He's on a yacht in the South of France and he phones me every day' (Bear in mind, albeit in a disparaging, hostile, tone of voice she had just confirmed that I had just accurately tuned into a boyfriend, described his location and correctly stated that he would be in contact very soon).

She then continued: 'He's fat, bald and over forty!  I'm not interested in him!  I want you to tell me what my other boyfriend is doing. He's young, handsome and virile'.  She obviously had two love interests, a long-term one, and a younger man, who, for reasons best known to him no longer called her (though by the tone of her voice and her disparaging shallow attitude I didn't need to be psychic to take an educated guess as to why he probably hadn't called her back).

She then told me that she thought about this younger man 'all of the time', and that she'd spoken to another or other (I can't now remember whether it was one or more) psychics who had told her that when she was thinking of him, that was due to the fact that he, they said 'was thinking of her' too.  She then asked me to confirm this statement.  I sought information from my guides and the sense I received was that this second boyfriend had cut himself right off from her - he wasn't interested in her.  (The other psychic or psychics had clearly just encouraged her in her self-destructive fantasy for an 'easy life', as they gave her a reading.) Despite her aggressive, critical behaviour, nevertheless, in a very tactful, respectful, professional manner I gently explained to the client that this wasn't what I sensed Spirit was indicating to me. (He'd moved on.)  In a screeching tone the woman began shouting down the phone at me.  She then challenged me to tell her exactly what her erstwhile 'boyfriend' was doing at that very moment in time.  I had no intention of getting involved in such a pointless challenge and I calmly told her so.  In a rage of anger, she told me I was 'rubbish' (several times) and hung up.

Interestingly, what she didn't realise or remember when she made her challenge was that, in actual fact, I had already correctly described her other boyfriend to her and, in relation to the subsequent challenge she made for me to demonstrate the ability to convey information of what someone was doing, at that very moment in time, I had indeed informed her of exactly what he was doing, at the time I sensed I'd tuned into him - which she herself confirmed.   But she chose to reject the information she didn't want to hear - and attack and disparage me for honestly, gently answering her questions, even though I did so with much tact and consideration for her emotions. (One of the common themes that you'll notice as you look at the testimonials on my website, is how my other clients regard me as respectfully treating them all in a warm and friendly manner.)

Sadly, in the majority of the very few situations I can remember (just 5, 2 of which I've covered above) where it's clear that clients have been less than pleased with the evidence I've shared, the questions they've asked have been to do with the potential outcomes of love affairs.  And in each case I'd had to state that I felt that in their cases it didn't look promising.  You can draw your own conclusions.

What about 'testing the psychic'?

People who work as psychics from time to time encounter clients who want to 'test the psychic'.  They do this in various ways, one of which is by being very secretive and closed.  Not even confirming, without being questioned to indicate one way or the other, whether a certain piece of evidence that has been presented by the psychic is correct or not.  When I'm giving a psychic reading, I tell my clients not to tell me anything, other than, if they have a question, to ask the question, and to be kind enough to indcate if the information I have received and shared is accurate.  On a few occasions I've worked with people who are reluctant to say very much at all! I understand that a person might not want to 'give anything away', but, minimal indications of accuracy are helpful.  Psychics are only human too - and when people respond as if they're playing poker it makes giving a reading a bit like 'trying to pull teeth' at the same time.  Nevertheless, recently, in the last few months, for example, I can recall, when encountering two such clients, how outstanding information has come through to me, which has been confirmed (in one case at the end of the reading and in another by email afterwards).  I just wonder how much more would come through if such people would participate in a more balanced, harmonious way?

Are you always 'right'?

The short answer to this question is - nope!  It would be foolish for me to pretend otherwise (and I never have) and equally unwise for anyone to have a reading with me (no matter how much accurate evidence I've been able to help bring through) to conclude that I will always be totally correct.  While I do receive confirmations from clients regarding the outcomes of predictive information that I've shared with them during readings after the readings, once the events have transpired, which have validated what I suggested the likely outcomes would be (before they occurred), it must be remembered that there are many variables involved when dealing with this aspect of potential psychic perception.  Predicting the future (along with all other aspects of psychic readings) should always be viewed as an experiment, and you should NEVER abdicate your own wisdom or decision making ability as a result of a reading with me (or with anyone else either, no matter how emphatic and confident they may profess to be about such matters).

Internationally renowned medium John Edward is one of my heroes in this field.  Take a look at the sage advice that he offers to those psychics who give readings, in his book called Infinite Quest on page 278, in the section headed 'RIGHT OR WRONG'.  Here's what he says: 'For your sake (and your clients') I am stressing one more time how important it is for you to believe that you definitely have the capability to be wrong... By allowing yourself to be wrong, you will no longer have to worry about being right every time, and you can focus on being accurate, helpful and responsible.' As John is arguably the most famous medium in the world today (and remember, he's been tested and shown to be accurate by Arizona State University), then this makes for some common sense advice that I think all psychic readers should follow, along with those who have readings with them.

I believe that I receive information from Spirit.  I am not omniscient.  You can think of me as being a little bit like a radio - with, using this metaphor, the information being broadcast to me from the spirit realm, while I'm simply the receiver.  Sometimes I'm very tuned in, while on other occasions the 'psychic atmospherics' might mean that the signal is not as strong. Therefore, some of what I receive will be very clear, while other elements might require 'decoding' - or they might remain unclear.  I may or may not interpret everything correctly.  Indeed, where I'm doubtful as to the correct meaning of some of the information I will often tell the client about the perceptions I'm receiving, leaving them free of interpretation, so that the client, who knows more about their own circumstances than me can, hopefully, fit the correct meaning to the information - or hold onto the information so that, perhaps, events will bring clarity over time.

I seek to bring through evidence from the Spirit Realm.  This can and often does include names of both living and departed loved ones and specific, factual, relevant evidence of other kinds. Information of this nature is pretty easy to validate, as it will be clear when the information provided is either correct or not (it will either be right or wrong). Predictive information can not be as easily validated during a reading, due to the fact that the future is the future (it hasn't yet happened). Therefore, always in such instances everyone concerned has to adopt a 'wait and see' attitude.

You may like to watch my videos (available on this website) which list several examples of some of the prophetic information that I believe I've received from Spirit in advance of it coming to pass, which has turned out to be true, plus if you listen to some of my radio interviews you can hear about 5 news events that I predicted would occur, based on information presented to me by Spirit, that I subsequently shared with Ian Jones (the show presenter) in advance of them happening, all of which occurred soon afterwards (these events include details of a freak lightning strike, a train crash, a rock slide and more).

Sometimes you will see so-called psychics making claims of '99% Accuracy!' and suchlike.  In all likelihood, where such claims are concerned this either means that these so-called psychics are 1) not seeing enough clients or 2) they're being disingenuous.  My understanding is that the research conducted by Arizona State University (with some of the world's top mediums) indicated about an 80% accuracy rate for those involved in the studies.  I expect that this will hold true for all genuine psychics of pronounced ability.

Take a look at some of my testimonials.  Notice how others have confirmed to their satisfaction the high levels of detailed accurate evidence that I've received from Spirit for them.  But remember I'm not omniscient.  I don't know everything (thank goodness!).

How should I prepare for a reading?

I think the kind of advice that celebrated TV medium John Edward offers is helpful: be open minded. If you’re coming for a mediumship reading, bear in mind that perhaps other loved ones on the Otherside might make contact beyond the one or two you’re hoping for. If you’re asking questions about relationships, be prepared to receive what the psychic receives, even if it isn’t what you want (often though, good news comes through in relationship readings... recently, for example, a woman asked me if she would hear from an ex-boyfriend again, with whom she hadn’t been in contact for ages. I replied by telling her that Spirit had just informed me that he'd be in contact very soon. She emailed me back within a couple of days to tell me that ‘out of the blue’ he had indeed contacted her, just as I sensed Spirit had predicted he would!). Be open minded. My experience is that Spirit will quite likely share some very good, very specific evidence that is for you proof of the spiritual source of the information.

Can you guarantee evidence?

I believe I'm totally dependent on Spirit for the information that comes to me. I believe that it is all factual. Sometimes, as stated above, it comes through ultra clearly (George), sometimes it appears in code (Aunty Sylvia), sometimes the evidence happens after the reading (the boyfriend who got in contact with my client soon afterwards), and of course, there is the chance that I might misinterpret something and make a mistake as to the intended meaning. I can’t therefore personally guarantee evidence, as the information isn’t generated by me, but I can guarantee (and you can read testimonials to this effect) that I have received absolutely outstanding evidence which the vast majority of my clients were happy (indeed thrilled) to receive. And even in those very few cases where the clients did not express the same delight (as highlighted above in the section headed 'Can you read everyone?')... factual evidence still came through. Probably it’s safe to say, you’ll get what you truly want. If you’re genuinely open to evidence, it will most likely come through. Indeed, if you ask Spirit, or your loved ones, or both, beforehand to assist with the reading, this will most likely help to set up a very good line of communication (as happened recently when I brought someone’s mum through... moments before arriving for the reading she told me she’d prayed to her mum to ask her to make contact - and as a result, she did, very clearly.)

In summary...

Be open minded.  I won't ask you to tell me anything (although feedback is helpful in the form of letting me know when you understand the meaning of evidence I give to you, such as if I give you a relevant name).  If you have a few questions you'd like me to seek insights about, by all means have them prepared and ready to ask.  Most of all, be prepared to receive relevant useful, timely insights from Spirit, which often times go far beyond the initial questions you'd planned or reasons you had that motivated you to have a reading.  It is my experience that Spirit can supply some wonderful messages indeed!
