Beautiful Day...

Dorothy Kerin, the founder of Burrswood was a visionary and a mystic who experienced a remarkable healing event at the nadir of a life-threatening illness. Thereafter she called the day on which it happened her 'Beautiful Day'. In the spirit of Dorothy wouldn't it be wonderful if society as a whole were to experience a similar Beautiful Day event in which the spirit of healing swept across the world - touching all nations and communities? Personally speaking, I'd like to see something like this occur. But is this just a dream?

Dorothy's healing was a God-given grace; after which she worked tirelessly and valiantly to share with as many others as possible something of the grace that she'd received. This took place in many ways; but always the focus was on God. Dorothy above all was humble and understood that she was 'just' a conduit through which the Spirit of God could work. In our celebrity-driven culture humility is an often 'forgotten' or undervalued attribute. In fact, often times, rather than being viewed as a desired and noble trait that's worth developing, it is instead perceived, sometimes, by some, with disdain. Usually though, those who view humility in such ways are, in my experience, unhappy people. Because when 'the ego has landed', so to speak, wisdom retreats to more hospitable environs. And where wisdom goes, so goes peace of mind.

People often mistake humility for weakness. But that's a mistake of monumental proportions. Some of the most humble people in history have been some of the most dynamic in history too, consider; along with history's recent saints: Dorothy Kerin, Padre Pio, Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King... there are of course other notable figures like, Zarathustra, Abraham, Jesus, Mohammed, Buddha, Guru Nanak, Krishna, Quetzalcoatl (and more...). To be humble can mean to be strong - it just means (to use a well-known idiom) not to think and act like a 'show off'.

Many of the world's problems are caused by a lack of humility and because too many people are caught up in doing too much 'showing off'. 'Showing off' can manifest in many ways. For instance, in feeling the 'need' to be the 'numero uno' business man or business woman - and stepping on everyone who gets in your way 'on the way up'. Or trying to be the 'top dog' 'hard man' in the local pub, club, or wherever. And sometimes it means feeling the 'need' to 'strut your stuff' on the world stage (in one way, shape or form), even when such 'strutting' is causing tremendous problems with every strutting step you take. Remember: when ego leads - wisdom retreats (and we all know that pride comes before a fall, the unfortunate thing is, is that one person's pride can cause many to fall: I'm thinking of the Iraq war as I write). And - in a really crazy kind of way - it's now possible for some people to be 'famous' just for being 'famous' (which is pandering to the modern cult of ego inflation in an exponential way). Yet, while all of this Ego is busy 'at work' in the world, the world is in a very sorry state - and it's getting sorrier every day. There's conflict ('I'm right - you're wong'), there's poverty ('this is mine - you can't have any'), there's deforestation ('the world is a commodity'); plus there are the problems caused by addiction ('I want more') along with various life style created illness ('It'll never happen to me'), and so on... And all of these problems have their roots in Ego. Clearly, to borrow an idea from a slogan from the world of politics: Ego isn't working.

But there is a solution. And the solution is a Beautiful Day of epic proportions. Imagine witnessing an event that you're a part of, in which millions, maybe even billions of people join their voices, so to speak, to create a very Big Voice, that says, in effect, the Age of Ego is past and the Age of Dynamic Humility is arisen. Just think of the wonderful changes that would manifest when the 'jostling for position' of Ego is consigned to the past and the working together in Dynamic Humility is the modus operandi of the way the world works. Imagine a world in effect populated by Bonos, Bob Geldofs, Princess Dianas, Mother Teresas, Gandhis and Dr. Martin Luther Kings. What a beautiful place it would be. What a Beautiful Day would have dawned. It would be wonderful - like a dream come true! Don't you think? I do!

As I conclude this article, I'd like to share another well-known phrase with you (with this Beautiful Day of epic proportions in mind), it is:: 'I have a dream...' And I invite you to dream it with me - so that together we can make it come true.
