As We Forgive Them...

In my opinion being forgiving and praying for the spiritual welfare of a trouble maker needn't mean that we should be gullible and 'let our guard down' thereby giving them additional opportunity to cause more problems. We can forgive, but, I believe, sometimes an errant (forgiven) person still needs to be held accountable for their actions, particularly if they're continuing to abuse their fellow human beings, in various ways. Remember: being a forgiving person does not equal being a 'pushover'. If a person is not held appropriately accountable for their bad intentioned actions then this can generate problems for other well-behaved people who are likely to become victims of those who (through the misplaced ideas of some about what forgiveness means) are allowed to continue causing mayhem in the world. There's a sufi proverb which says: 'Merely doing good to the evil may be the equivalent to doing evil to the good'.*
