The Spirit of The Lord

'The Spirit of the Lord has been given to me, For he has anointed me, He has sent me to bring the good news to the poor, To proclaim liberty to captives And to the blind new sight To set the downtrodden free, To proclaim the Lord’s year of favour.'

And so spoke Jesus, as recorded in Luke 4:18.19

Now consider to this:  'After this I will pour out my Spirit on all mankind. Your sons and daughters shall prophesy, Your old men shall dream dreams, And your young men see visions.'

That’s from the book of Joel 3:1

I don’t think there can be much doubt. Humanity has largely lost its way. Just look at any newspaper or turn on your TV and you’ll be deluged with reports about people being killed by extreme weather, coupled with frightening warnings of how we’re all running the risk of worse to come, because of man-made global warming. You'll also notice reports of war and almost daily acts of hate filled terrorism. Sometimes (too often) headlines of corruption at high levels are the subject of the news. And then there are reports of local problems; including yobbish behaviour, bullying and little acts of spite and cruelty that daily occur in our community (sometimes leading to loss of life, as in the case of poor Fiona Pilkington).

How I wish things were different – and I expect you do too?

Despite the severity of the problems that beset us I don’t believe it’s too late though. I believe things can be different and I believe the Spirit World want things to be different.

When you look at the problems of the world today – and I’m even talking about so called ‘acts of God’, like the weather - you’ll notice that practically all of them are man-made. In fact the expression ‘man made’ is very apt where acts of violence are concerned because historically speaking – on the whole – wars are started by men.

When you think about it I suspect that many of the problems we face can be traced back to a 'root cause', so to speak. The cause? Ego. Ego which manifests itself in acts of selfishness, pride, self-righteousness and superiority of various kinds. The nation that burns fossil fuels like there’s no tomorrow (and there might not be much of a tomorrow if certain nations don’t stop doing so) is an act of selfishness. The war monger and the terrorist are all expressing superiority of various kinds. Be it religious or political, it doesn’t really matter, it’s still a form of self-righteousness, which is a form of superiority - which has its roots in Ego.

So, how come God doesn’t manifest in the affairs of the world to sort all of this out? We’ll maybe He (and/or She) does? And maybe He (and/or She) is? But maybe He (and/or She) expects us to become a part of the solution – instead of (directly or indirectly) being the source of all the problems.

When I was a kid I used to read superhero comics. In fact I had loads of them!  Batman. Superman. Captain Marvel. Spider-man. Thor. The Hulk. Fly Man. The Blue Beetle. 'You name 'em, I read 'em.' Sometimes I’d go to the spare room where they were kept and I’d select 20 or 30 of them to read. Then I’d take them into the lounge and work my way through some of them. But after a while I’d move onto something else, for instance maybe a friend would call and I’d go out, or whatever...  And as my attention changed I’d sometimes leave my comics in a mess all over the lounge floor.  My mum and dad would clear them up behind me. But (and it’s a big but!) I didn’t learn anything by them running around clearing up the mess I'd made. So, in the end, they drew my attention to the mess I was making (I got 'told off') and as a result I began to learn to be more tidy.  The shock of a telling off, coupled with a developed awareness of the consequences of my actions (I'd been making a mess of the home) caused me to change my behaviour.

I suspect that things are similar where God and the Spirit World are concerned regarding the development of the human race. I believe wise men and women have incarnated to life in the physical world to draw our attention to the problems we’re creating and to point the way to the solution, but that, for various reasons (some of which I mentioned a few moments ago) not enough of us have heeded the message, and as a result the world continues to plunge headlong into more mess - possibly even reaching a point whereby, due to war, terrorism and/or natural (but man-made) catastrophes we screw things up so badly that our home (planet Earth) becomes uninhabitable.

I once watched one of those shock-doc (documentary) programmes that are shown on TV, in which, in this case, representatives from a local authority were called upon to enter a house after putrid smells had been reported by local residents.  You know what they found? Rubbish and excrement trodden into the floor, rotting food, dead animals and dead insects ....and, get this - people living amongst it all! Shocking huh? But what’s more shocking is the fact that humanity as a whole has not yet learned the lessons of history and responded adequately to the clear fact that our collective behaviour (as evidenced by ongoing acts of pollution, violence, greed, deceit, etc) is making a much bigger mess and causing far more terrible problems.

I think that those quotes I gave you (above) from the Bible are very inspiring.  What's more, I believe that Jesus, along with other God-inspired men and women brought a message to the world. The message of (to use Jesus' expression) the 'kingdom of God'. The message of 'the kingdom of God', or the New Age as it's often called today was not a message about an ethereal 'Never Never Land' that exists beyond our reach, but rather he promised a kingdom, or New Age that would manifest here on Earth.  I believe if we collectively ask God and the Spirit World to help us help manifest this kingdom (thereby becoming part of the solution and active partners with God) we’ll start to move society away from hate and towards mutual respect for each other, away from pollution and towards cleanliness and respect for the natural environment. And importantly, away from a superior ‘go it alone’ attitude and towards a way-of-Love centred approach (being in harmony with God and the Spirit World)

What does that quote from the book of Joel tell us? It says that God will make the same Spirit that inspired and guided Jesus available to others too.  You can see this Spirit at work in the lives of many men and women throughout the pages of history, up to and including the present day. I believe that this Spirit is available to all of us now as well. (It had better be – because otherwise it might be too late.)

What can you do to become a partner in God's work? Well I believe if you sincerely ask God to make you a partner in His (and/or Her) remedial work for this world, at this vital moment in history, you will be given the opportunity to 'join the team' so to speak.  I believe that you'll find yourself being guided and inspired by Spirit.  You'll become a vital part of the most important project in the history of the world. How might you do this? Well it’s very simple. All you need to do is take a few moments in private to ask God to make you a part of this important work and then sincerely seek to follow the guidance you receive by allowing the Spirit to manifest Love through you. God doesn’t coerce. He invites (and he offers us lots of opportunities). But in the end it’s up to you. It’s your decision.

So how about it? Do you want to be part of the work of Spirit in the world today? Personally speaking: allowing Spirit to work in my life is the best thing I ever did. I wouldn’t have it any other way.  I have a sense that my work has real value.  I've been blessed to be able to share messages from departed loved ones with people on this side of life, along with inspiring insights from Spirit Guides and I live with a sense that a Great Plan is unfolding. What's more, we're told that all those filled with the Spirit shall prophesy and have visions (Joel3:1). You too can be an ambassador for the Spirit World.  Like Jesus and other Spirit inspired men and women you can help bring good news to this troubled world.  You only need to 'apply' for the role (your acceptance is automatic).  Remember, when applying for an ordinary job 'the sooner the better' approach works best: how much more apt when applying to become a Spirit-inspired ambassador?
