JSus

(This is the text of a podcast I recorded a few years ago.)

The year was One Hundred Thousand and Eight according the the reckoning of the Common Era unit of measurement which calculates Year One as the approximate birth year of Christ. The power needed to generate a wormhole through time that would enable a person to travel back to before the Great Armageddon occurred was phenomenal. More than the power of a hundred suns. Which is why although the scientific know-how had existed for over 40,000 years, the ability to put the understanding into practice had been, well, out of reach of the human race – until today!

Today, with the finalisation of the quantum-nuclear-black-hole-conversion-drive scientists had at last become able to harness the power of a black hole which was located in a nearby galaxy so that the massive forces generated by the black hole could be, through the wizardry of science, utilised to drive the wormhole through time. However, even with a power source equivalent to more than a hundred suns the wormhole would still exist only for little more than a second, during which, one person, and one person only would be able to step through in order to travel back in time to the 21st Century. The risk involved was incredible. If the quantum-nuclear-black-hole-conversion-drive failed in any way it could cause massive destruction to the surrounding towns and cities (which had already been evacuated as a precaution) in the state of England, which was situated in the United States of Europe. And the cost of this project was equivalent to the Gross Domestic Product of the world itself for an entire month!  But all the peoples of the world had voted to go ahead with the task, using their palm-top voting software because great though the risks were, greater still would be the reward if the project was successful. You see, in the year One Hundred Thousand and Eight people had learned that money should not be viewed as the top priority in life. So, while significant costs were involved and there was even the potential that some towns and cities might be laid waste, not to mention the fact that there were real risks to the lives of the people involved in the experiment, the question was moot. Can you really calculate billions of deaths and the start of a dark age that lasted for tens of thousands of years, causing mass extinctions and wars for food, water and other natural resources? Of course not! The answer was that there was no question.

JSus stepped into the Time Flux Pod. He looked at his wife and children one last time. There was no coming back. He knew it, They knew it, everyone knew it. As their gaze met he smiled at them with a look of hope in his eyes. 'Godspeed' they said in unison. JSus replied: 'You too – love you lots!' And with that the the chief scientist who was overseeing the project to send JSus back to the 21st Century clicked the mouse on his computer and JSus felt the full power of the quantum-nuclear-black-hole-conversion-drive begin to wrench him forcefully out of time. The effect was simultaneously exhilarating and terrifying. It was as if he was travelling rapidly along a dark tunnel - at the end of which he could see a light. In fact he seemed to be travelling faster than light - paradoxically - in a tunnel devoid of light, except for that...glow which looked like it was trillion miles away, and more... before...suddenly... the source of the glow was upon him - as he felt himself expelled from the tunnel and onto a solid surface. And as this happened the source of the light became obvious to him. It was a sunny day on planet Earth – in the 21st Century. He'd arrived!

He was dressed in clothes that had been especially selected for his mission. Blue jeans and T-shirt and some trainer sports shoes. In his denim jacket pocket he carried his portable computer which was designed to look like an iPhone - on which was amassed in QP3 format (that's Quantum Media Player 3 format) the sum total of all the world's knowledge as it existed in One Hundred Thousand and Eight, including the sum of all books, TV, radio and other electronically categorised information all stored amazingly on something the size of a mobile phone. The entire history of the world... ranging from all that was known about the world Before The Common Era - to One Hundred Thousand and Eight. Importantly the QP3 player catalogued how humanity had practically destroyed everything that lived on planet Earth and why it had taken nearly 60,000 years to recover from the damage that humankind had wrought during the 20th and 21st Centuries. And this was the reason that JSus had chosen to volunteer to return to Earth, just a few years after the Millennium. During a time, coincidently, when many were still expectedly waiting the coming of a Messiah. A Great Soul whose job it was to help save humanity from itself. Strange how things turn out isn't it?

JSus looked longingly at the beautiful blue sky, and the trees around him. Ahead of him was a beach and he knew he was standing on the South Coast of Great Britain. Back in the early 21st Century the United States of Europe didn't exist although Britain was a member of its forerunner, the European Union. The EU had been championing the need to introduce significant carbon reduction measures across the world, but it had been hampered by other powerful governments in the East and the West (the countries who caused the most pollution). Millions of citizens of the most polluting countries wanted to match the European Union's lead, but, due to the nature of the form of politics which was prevalent at that time this meant that while the ability truly existed to ensure that all people could cast an electronic vote in much the same way that people did in JSus time, to help determine government policy, the most polluting administrations of the early 21st century were not prepared to allow such open and transparent voting on important issues and this meant that while many of the citizens wanted to support the initiative of other countries, like those in the EU, they were prevented from doing so by 'the system'. At this time in the world's history, governments had forgotten that they exist to serve the people rather than control them and as a result, no such thing as democracy really existed, just a modified form of the ancient feudal system, wrapped up in a slightly different dressing, with baron's, princes, kings and queens being replaced by presidents, prime ministers, senators and parliamentarians. The citizens knew this problem existed, but they still believed that there was nothing they could really do about it.

JSus wept.  And as he felt tears well up in his eyes he considered how in just a few short years this world would no longer exist as it did on this beautiful day in which he'd just materialised, if things continued as they were on course to do. Rampant pollution, global warming and the subsequent wars that followed would all but wipe out the human race - along with much of the rest of life on Earth. Ants and cockroaches would do quite well out of the situation, but most other forms of life would die off at a rate that was unprecedented in the hundreds of millions of years since life began.

How on Earth could this have come about JSus asked himself, in that rhetorical kind of way that people do when they already know the answer to their own question, but still can't fully take in the enormity of what that answer means. But then his knowledge of ancient Earth history re-asserted itself and he remembered how some of those on the Earth in the early years of the 21st Century, who occupied positions of influence in some of the world's governments and corporations - setting the dangerous agenda that they did – to make money at all costs, even if it meant annihilating everything that lived - by causing lethal global warming, wars and terrorism, had by their greed practically destroyed the world, causing it to take over 60,000 years and the invention of some sophisticated technology in order to remove the radiation traces that had been left by the exploding nuclear warheads and dirty bombs that occurred during the Oil Wars, which had began in the middle 21st Century. And how it subsequently took many dedicated scientists to invent new technologies to begin to remove the excess carbon from the world's atmosphere that had been caused by man-made pollution - and to help refreeze the poles so that the world's climate would normalise – thereby ending the raging droughts that had followed closely behind the years of the Oil Wars, which in turn caused the Food and Water Wars just 9 years later. Then, with frozen fertilised embryos and just enough surrogate mother animals how it had just been possible to practically restock the worlds fauna to pre-2008 levels. Plus, how due to the work of forward thinking botanists, enough seeds and suchlike had been stockpiled in so-called Doomsday Vaults - which were established in the early 21st Century, for just such an eventuality as the catastrophe that had befallen the world and as a result, after tens of thousands of years the world was restored to its former condition. And all was well again – but at what a cost!? Billions of people had first been killed, by war, by terrorism, by man-made natural disasters - while billions of animals had been exterminated by the human race in events that preceded what had come to be known as the Big Armageddon that affected all life, in the so-called Animal Armageddon that preceded it, when each year about 140 billion animals were processed by the food industry and millions more suffered the excruciating tortures of animal experimentation in the name of the cruel god of 21st century science.

He had to succeed – he had to reach the people. They were the answer. If there was any way such suffering could be averted, even if it meant changing the course of history then it would be worth it. History in JSus' time had recorded that some of the world leaders of the early 21st Century who should have known better – who did know better, but who put money and might at the top of their agenda instead of listening to what thousands of reputable scientists and other people with common sense were saying about the effects that humanity was having upon the world and the remedial action that should have been taken nevertheless were ruled by their greed and had therefore failed to do so. Which was why it was now up to the people, the decent and reasonable citizens of the world to whom he needed to reach out. So, with a desire to get started JSus used his QP3 player to begin to log onto the world wide web of the 21st century and he set up a website inviting people of all nations to work as co-partners with him for the cause of peace – in order that the human race could save itself, from itself.

Soon, the goodness that exists in the hearts and minds of most people on Earth began to respond to the call for peace. Jaded by the duplicity that surrounds much politics, fed up with the unhelpful stance of the polluting governments of the early 21st Century, tired of the governments of some other oil and gas rich nations using their resources to bully and coerce - the decent people of the world began to unite as one to prepare to do away with petty nationalism and to work for the first time in human history for the common good of humanity.

However, while the public mood was good, behind the scenes some of those who held power who could see their unearned positions of status and privilege – and therefore wealth and influence - beginning to slip from their greedy grasp conspired to do away with JSus in order to maintain their positions, even if JSus was right about what he was saying and even it would mean the eventual destruction of planet earth. After all, it would be the next generation which would begin to feel the brunt of the problems that their policies were causing and that was, these unscrupulous leaders reasoned, not really their problem. They'd be long gone by then!

JSus' rise to prominence was quick and soon he was invited to speak on television. The programme was to be beamed into homes all around the world. You see, people had begun to believe that JSus was a prophet, because, using his knowledge of world history he had successfully predicted, so to speak, world events, based on the information stored in his QP3 player and this had added to his following. There was something special about him. He seemed to be different, otherworldly, like he was driven by some inner force to marshal the collective power of the decent people of the world to ensure that a time of peace would overthrow the time of violence that the world had been living in – because, well, it was almost as if he knew for sure... like he could see into the future, and that he understood that if humanity didn't unite for peace, if humanity didn't quickly learn to do away with the endemic greed and violence that infected the world then the results would be soooo catastrophic that they would turn out to be literally beyond comprehension. So the tangible sense of mission that drove JSus began to inspire others too.  Twelve people became particularly close, as JSus reached out to the billions around the world.

It was the day of the Passover. This occasion was deemed to be a suitable time to symbolically unite humanity to save itself from the death angel-like effects that it had unleashed upon itself, due to its habit of rampant greed and violence. TV stations and internet providers focussed billions on the moment.  JSus, inspired, approached the podium and began to exhort the people of the world to unite as one for peace. To put away petty bickering. He reminded them that they were all related to each other. A world family. They lived and breathed, laughed, loved and cried - and sometimes prematurely died in just the same way. Now was the time to work together for peace he explained. The mood was electrifying. Millions, even billions felt something inside them begin to glow, like an inner light that seemed to be in harmony with the message of this unusual man. Now was the right moment JSus decided. He was about to tell them who he was and where he'd come from, and why he'd journeyed so far. He looked into the cameras and smiled and said 'As you know, my name is JSus and I have something important to tell you, I am not of this world, my world exists elsewhere'. As he spoke these momentous words, people began to say things to each other like: 'I knew it, he's a prophet', and 'Right on. He's an angel'. And at the point at which he was about to explain to them that he was just an ordinary man from the future who had travelled to the past to help humanity save itself from itself – the shot rang out. Bang!!! A hate empowered projectile flew from the barrel of a sniper's rifle and it struck JSus in the chest. The impact threw him backwards into the wall behind the podium. Shouts began to ring out: 'Oh my God, JSus has been shot. Oh my God, JSus has been shot'. The small group of 12 friends who'd been invited as a studio audience at JSus's request who were seated in the first row just a few feet away from where JSus had been standing were by now covered in JSus blood.

As JSus' life blood ebbed away from him, it was as if the world around him was moving in slow motion and as if his senses had become heightened. He could hear one of the production managers exclaiming that in the moments before JSus was shot the studio had received over 3 billion texts and emails pledging their support for a Peace Revolution. And as he looked at his 12 friends, some might even call them disciples, who had by now overcome their stunned silence and reached his side to say in unison, 'We vow to carry on with this work. Don't worry JSus. We promise to take your message forward, to save the world.'  As these words echoed through his mind, with his last ounce of energy JSus removed the QP3 player from his pocket and gave it to his friend Peter. 'In here you will find the key to all you need to know' he said. And with that he smiled. He knew his work was complete and that it would be a success. The world was united and his friends would take his message out diligently to all peoples and as this understanding crossed his mind he said the words 'It is done'. And as he did his body disappeared, because the history of the world had been changed which meant that JSus' future world did not exist as it had, which meant the JSus no longer existed as he did and therefore his body could no longer occupy the 21st Century. However... somewhere in the year One Hundred Thousand and Eight a veritable Heaven on Earth now existed and... from time to time... a 33 year old man called JSus (who was named after a great prophet who had mysteriously appeared and then quickly disappeared in the early 21st Century) lived happily with his wife and children, and he dreamt dreams in which he'd travelled to the past in order to bring a message of peace to a troubled world.
